Evaluate Possible Causes
Loss of Prime
Open Center Systems
If the pump loses prime, it will not generate any pressure when the pump is enabled, and it won’t transition from standby mode to operating mode.
Load Sense Systems
If the pump loses prime, it will not generate any pressure during the “soft-start” period, after being enabled, and it will fault out with a red pump status indicator light on the display screen.
Failed Check Valve (Truck Side)
Open Center Systems
Because open center systems operate at fixed speed, the pump will not generate sufficient pressure to actuate hydraulic functions normally. SmartPTO may also fail to transition to operating mode when hydraulic functions are actuated.
Load Sense Systems
The pump in load sense systems will run significantly faster than normal at standby, and will be unable to achieve adequate pressure when actuating hydraulic functions. Test the emergency DC back-up pump. If the truck-side check valve has failed, the emergency DC pump will likely not be able to generate enough flow to actuate the hydraulic equipment. When in doubt, remove and examine the check valve for damage
Other failed hydraulic valve in truck-side system
Truck Side Valves
Check any other valves that could create a leak path back to the hydraulic fluid tank.
Failed pump in SmartPTO
Open Center Systems
Because open center systems operate at fixed speed, the pump will not generate sufficient pressure to actuate hydraulic functions normally. SmartPTO may also fail to transition to operating mode when hydraulic functions are actuated.
Load Sense Systems
The pump in load sense systems will run significantly faster than normal at standby, and will be unable to achieve adequate pressure when actuating hydraulic functions. Test the emergency DC pump to rule out a failed truck-side check valve. Review the telematics data before and after the problem occurred and try to get as much information from the user as possible. Sudden loss of pressure and hydraulic functionality while operating the system is indicative of a pump failure.
Failed pressure relief valve in SmartPTO
SmartPTO Pressure Relieve valve Failure
The pressure relief valve can be tested to ensure proper cracking pressure, but it is easy enough to just replace the pressure relief valve (Viatec PN: 45.0009.01)
